SENIOR ROBOTICS ENGINEER

PHYSICAL AI INTEGRATION

Join our engineering team to advance robotics technology.

LOCATION

Viseu, Portugal

EMPLOYMENT TYPE

PERMANET

What You'll Do

You will tackle low-level robotics challenges such as kinematics, dynamics, and state estimation, ensuring that high-level AI behaviours translate seamlessly into physical motor commands. You won't be training the AI models themselves, you'll be building the control and integration layer that lets those models safely and reliably operate real hardware. You will act as a foundational technical voice, shaping our integration strategies, setting safety standards, and guiding the broader hardware-software engineering efforts through complex challenges.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

You will contribute to a broad and exciting set of responsibilities, including:

System Integration & Strategy

  • Architect the integration of learned AI policies with traditional control loops, establishing best practices for stable and predictable physical execution.

Control & Dynamics

  • Control & Dynamics

State Estimation & Sensor Fusion

  • Implement robust sensor fusion pipelines (IMUs, encoders, cameras, force-torque) to deliver accurate state feedback to the AI models.

Hardware Debugging & Technical Oversight

  • Diagnose complex electromechanical issues and latency bottlenecks, elevating the diagnostic skills of the surrounding engineers and enforcing real-time safety guardrails during live testing.

Simulation & Real-World Validation

  • Validate control and integration work in simulation Isaac Sim, MuJoCo and Gazebo and others before deployment onto real hardware, and take ownership of closing the sim-to-real gap.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building, programming, and debugging complex multi-jointed robotic systems, with a history of architecting solutions that serve as the standard for wider engineering efforts.

Mindset & Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Curiosity, creativity and a drive to push boundaries in robotics.

In addition to technical skills, we value individuals who are team players, effective communicators, and problem solvers. If you are ready to take on new challenges and drive innovation in the field of robotics, we want to hear from you.

Technical Skills

  • Core Robotics: Strong foundation in rigid-body dynamics, forward/inverse kinematics, and classical/modern control theory.

  • Software Skills: Expert-level C++ and Python, with extensive experience using ROS2, MoveIt 2, BehaviorTrees, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Simulation: Experience with Isaac Sim, MuJoCo and/or Gazebo for validating control algorithms prior to real-world deployment.

  • Real-World Deployment: Demonstrated experience deploying robotics software on physical hardware, not simulation alone.

WHO IS THIS ROLE FOR

  • You have built and debugged control systems on real, physical multi-jointed robots, not only in simulation.

  • You are equally comfortable in classical control theory and in integrating modern, learned AI behaviours into that control stack.

  • You want to be a foundational technical voice on a small team, shaping how things are built, not just executing someone else's architecture.

Who This Role Is Not Primarily For

  • This role is not primarily focused on developing or training the AI/ML models themselves (that sits with the AI Engineering side of the team), pure computer-vision or perception work, or classical industrial PLC/factory-automation programming. Candidates from these areas may still be relevant if they also have significant hands-on experience with real-time robot control and integration.

LOCATION, WORKING MODEL & PRATICAL DETAILS

  • Location: Viseu, Portugal. On-site, Monday–Friday, with a genuine flexible-hours culture (no time-tracking). Remote considered only case-by-case for exceptional candidates with proven real-hardware deployment experience.

  • Visa: EU/EEA candidates only at this time; unable to sponsor visas outside the EU.

  • Language: English required; team is transitioning to full-English operation.

  • Relocation: Practical support available (visa guidance, help finding accommodation, contract translation); does not cover flights or full relocation costs.
